Following his dismissal from Roma, Jose Mourinho is considering a noteworthy return to the managerial position at Old Trafford. Anxious for a comeback to the coaching arena, the Special One is resolute in his goal to replace Erik ten Hag and has identified it as a personal mission.

Jose Mourinho, presently without a managerial role following his recent departure from Roma, appears enthusiastic about returning to football, specifically expressing interest in a second term as the manager of Manchester United. The 61-year-old Portuguese manager, as reported by the Daily Mail, is reportedly “keen” on assuming control at Old Trafford once more. A close associate of Mourinho conveyed to the newspaper that there is a sense of “unfinished business” for him at the club, considering how his initial tenure concluded.
Reports suggest that Mourinho has set a personal objective to reclaim the managerial position at Manchester United, although the likelihood of this materializing in the near future seems slim. Erik ten Hag is currently in the second season of his three-year contract as the manager, and fans are optimistic about his prospects, especially with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group overseeing sporting operations.
Mourinho assumed the managerial role at Manchester United in 2016 as the third permanent manager following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. During his debut season, he effectively recruited notable players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, guiding the team to triumphs in the Carabao Cup and Europa League. In the 2017/18 season, Manchester United achieved a second-place position in the Premier League, marking the club’s highest finish since the Ferguson era.
Nevertheless, Mourinho’s tenure encountered internal challenges, including tensions arising from the inability to secure crucial transfer targets and other personnel-related issues. These challenges became particularly apparent during the summer transfer window in 2018, where the club’s signings were limited to Fred, Diogo Dalot, and backup goalkeeper Lee Grant.
Despite a noteworthy 3-2 comeback victory against Newcastle in October 2018, Mourinho’s stint at United concluded just over two months later following a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. This period was marked by a run of only one win in six league games. As Mourinho contemplates a potential return to coaching, the aspiration to lead Manchester United again remains a personal ambition. However, the existing managerial stability under Erik ten Hag and the positive sentiment among fans suggest that Mourinho’s desired reunion with Manchester United may encounter considerable obstacles in the immediate future.
