Chelsea
This comes as a surprising piece of positive information for Chelsea supporters, as Todd Boehly reveals an unexpected return of Jose Mourinho to take over from the underperforming coach Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea. Todd Boehly expresses confidence that Mourinho would excel and do a superior job in the Premier League.
Roma has parted ways with ex-Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho after a series of one victory in five Serie A games, concluding his two-and-a-half-year tenure at the club.
The 60-year-old assumed the role of Roma manager in May 2021 and successfully guided the club to victory in the Europa Conference League in his inaugural season, putting an end to I Giallorossi’s 11-year trophy drought. Subsequently, Mourinho led the team to the Europa League final during the 2022/23 campaign, narrowly losing to Sevilla on penalties.
As of now, Roma holds the ninth position in the Serie A table, experiencing a disappointing first half of the season with 29 points from their first 20 matches. In fact, I Giallorossi have managed to win just one of their last six league games since the beginning of December, with a 3-1 defeat at AC Milan marking Mourinho’s final game in charge.
A statement from Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin expressed gratitude to Jose on behalf of everyone at AS Roma for the passion and commitment he displayed since his arrival in the Giallorossi.
Mourinho took over from fellow countryman Paulo Fonseca at Roma before the 2021/22 season, with the club seeking to enhance their performance following a seventh-place finish in Serie A. To bolster their prospects, Roma made substantial financial investments, signing Tammy Abraham from Chelsea for £34 million, and acquiring Rui Patricio and Matias Vina, both of whom were among the club’s most expensive additions in the summer of 2021. However, in compliance with UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations, Mourinho authorized the departure of several players, including Edin Dzeko, Javier Pastore, and Pedro.
While Roma’s sixth-place finish in Mourinho’s debut season was a minor improvement over the previous year, what really stood out was their performance in the Europa Conference League. After advancing through their group and defeating Vitesse and Bodo/Glimt to reach the semifinals, where they were paired with Premier League opponents in Leicester, I Giallorossi blasted to the last-16 of the competition.
Tammy Abraham’s header in the first half gave Mourinho’s Roma the advantage over their rivals at the Stadio Olimpico after a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the semi-final. They advanced to the final round of the competition by defeating Marseille, and they will face Feyenoord of the Netherlands as a result. In the Albanian final, Roma prevailed thanks to a goal by Nicolo Zaniola the victor to receive Mourinho’s first trophy as manager.
Roma finished the previous season with exactly the same amount of points—sixth on 63—as they did in the 2021/22 campaign. But once more, it was a run in Europe that attracted notice, as they advanced to the Europa League final after defeating teams like Real Sociedad, Red Bull Salzburg, and Bayer Leverkusen.
