BREAKING NEWS: Premier League admits ANOTHER VAR blunder as Liverpool are robbed of a clear penalty for Diogo Jota against Wolves. How many more times will VAR fail before real changes are made? This isn’t just a mistake—it’s a costly error that could shape the season. Liverpool deserved that penalty, and everyone knows it.CROWNED STAR LIVERPOOLBREAKING NEWS: Premier League acknowledges yet another VAR mistake as Liverpool is denied a clear penalty for Diogo Jota against Wolves. How many more VAR failures will occur before real reforms are implemented? This isn’t just an error—it’s a significant mistake that could influence the outcome of the season. Liverpool clearly deserved that penalty, and everyone is aware of it. Published 1 day ago on February 16, 2025, by Destiny Omodion. The Premier League has provided an explanation for why Liverpool’s Diogo Jota did not receive a yellow card for diving after VAR overturned the penalty decision in the second half at Anfield. With Liverpool leading 2-0 against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jota went down following a challenge from Emmanuel Agbadou, sparking concerns among Wolves fans. Referee Simon Hooper initially awarded a penalty, but VAR official John Brooks advised a review on the pitchside monitor. Video evidence revealed that while Agbadou lunged, the contact wasn’t strong enough to constitute a foul, leading Hooper to reverse his initial decision. However, instead of awarding a free kick to Wolves and issuing a caution to Jota for simulation, Hooper resumed play with a drop ball, which confused some Wolves players. In a statement on X, the Premier League’s Match Centre clarified: “VAR reviewed the referee’s decision to give a penalty to Liverpool for Agbadou’s challenge on Jota and concluded that any contact was not caused by Agbadou. Consequently, an on-field review was suggested. The referee revised his initial decision, and play resumed with a drop ball.” This indicates that although the contact did not justify a penalty, it was still considered enough to account for Jota’s fall. This moment turned out to be pivotal as Wolves soon reacted, with Matheus Cunha scoring to reduce the gap after goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah. A defeat at Anfield would leave Wolves just two points ahead of the relegation zone.
