Liverpool and Everton release joint statement amid rumours Merseyside Derby will be postponed
Liverpool and Everton have released a joint statement after an ‘amber severe wind warning’ was issued for parts of the UK, including Merseyside.
Premier League leaders Liverpool are set to face local rivals Everton on Saturday afternoon in a 12:30pm kick-off, marking the final top-flight match at Goodison Park. However, the game faces uncertainty due to warnings from the Met Office about “damaging winds” from Storm Darragh, which could lead to “significant disruption” in parts of the UK. The storm is expected to bring risks to life, travel disruptions, energy outages, and widespread property damage.
All football matches in Wales on Saturday, including Cardiff’s Championship clash with Watford, have already been postponed due to severe weather warnings. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Everton issued a joint statement urging fans to allow extra travel time and stay updated on weather conditions.
The Met Office has issued an amber wind warning for Merseyside from 1am Saturday to 6am Sunday, with gusts expected to reach 60-70mph and up to 80mph along exposed coastal areas. Fans attending the Merseyside derby are advised to monitor travel updates and exercise caution while planning their journey. The strongest winds are expected to ease by Saturday afternoon, but disruptions remain likely.
