Manchester City are preparing for an active January transfer window as they seek to fill the void left by Rodri, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Pep Guardiola is reportedly eager to reinforce his midfield options, and Brazilian star Bruno Guimarães is emerging as a key target.

According to *The Daily Mail*, Guardiola has “insisted” on including Guimarães on the club’s transfer shortlist. The 27-year-old midfielder has been a standout performer for Newcastle United since joining from Lyon in January 2022 for £40 million. His impact in the Premier League has not gone unnoticed, with Guardiola said to “love” the player’s abilities.

Manchester City were reportedly interested in signing Guimarães last summer but were deterred by his £100 million release clause, which expired in June. With more than three years left on his current contract, Newcastle are in a strong position to demand a significant fee should they consider selling their star player.

City’s midfield struggles without Rodri have been evident, with the team failing to win seven consecutive matches until their 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. Despite the dip in form, Guardiola has refused to use Rodri’s absence as an excuse.

“It’s not an excuse that Rodri is not there,” Guardiola said before their 2-0 loss to Liverpool. “What are we going to do, cry all the time that Rodri is not there? I have to find a solution, and I’m trying every day.”

Guimarães’ skill set and Premier League experience make him an ideal candidate for City’s midfield. However, prying him away from Newcastle won’t be easy, as the Magpies are likely to demand a hefty fee to part with one of their most influential players.

With City aiming to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see if Guardiola can secure this high-profile addition to his Treble-winning team.
