Stefan Ortega facing backlash for making ‘insulting’ comment about Liverpool after Man City defeat

Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has received backlash for comments he made about Liverpool after the 2-0 defeat at Anfield on Sunday.
Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has come under fire for comments made after their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. Ortega, who replaced regular goalkeeper Ederson in a surprising decision by Pep Guardiola, faced criticism following the match.
The game saw Liverpool take an early lead through Cody Gakpo, with Mo Salah adding a second from the penalty spot after Ortega fouled Luis Diaz in the box. This defeat marked City’s fourth consecutive Premier League loss, extending their winless streak to seven games and dropping them to fifth in the table. Liverpool fans taunted Guardiola with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning,” to which the City manager responded by holding up six fingers, referencing his six Premier League titles with the club.
In a post-match interview, Ortega commented on the incident, stating, “Someone told me before that this area is probably not the best part of the UK.” His remark was widely criticized as “tasteless” and “nasty,” prompting backlash from fans and pundits alike.
Guardiola addressed the chants and his reaction, expressing surprise at Anfield’s hostility. “I didn’t expect Anfield to chant for my sacking at 0-2,” he said. “Maybe I deserve it with our results, but I’ve won six Premier Leagues and many titles. I didn’t expect this from Anfield, though it’s part of the game.”
Manchester City will look to bounce back on Wednesday as they host Nottingham Forest, who sit just one point and one place behind them in the league standings after 13 games.
