Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has explained why he gave his FA Cup winners’ medal to a teammate.

Manchester United secured their 13th FA Cup title in May with a 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester City at Wembley. Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scored in the first half, while City managed only a consolation goal from substitute Jeremy Doku. The win marked a double for United, who had earlier clinched the Carabao Cup by defeating Newcastle United 2-0.

Casemiro, originally set to start on the bench, withdrew from the squad after experiencing muscle tightness during the warm-up. Despite not playing, the Brazilian midfielder participated in the celebrations and made a touching gesture by giving his winner’s medal to teammate Tyrell Malacia.

Malacia, sidelined for the entire season due to a knee injury, was present at the final but was not eligible for a medal. Casemiro insisted Malacia deserved recognition for being part of the team. “He’s part of the squad, and we love and need him,” Casemiro said, emphasizing the importance of supporting teammates.

Malacia, hesitant to join the trophy presentation, revealed that Casemiro convinced him to go up. “When someone with his experience tells you to do something, you listen,” Malacia shared.

The Dutch defender recently made his return to competitive action under new manager Ruben Amorim, starting in the Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt. United will now host Everton on Sunday in Amorim’s first Premier League home game, hoping to build on recent positive performances.
