Real Madrid icon Marcelo has had his contract terminated by Fluminense following a bizarre incident with his manager. The left-back, regarded as one of the greatest in football history, spent 15 successful years at Real Madrid, winning six La Liga titles and five Champions Leagues, before moving on to Olympiacos and then returning to his boyhood club, Fluminense.

Marcelo’s second stint ended on a disappointing note during a recent match against Gremio, which ended in a 2-2 draw. As the game approached stoppage time, Marcelo was prepared to come on as a substitute with Fluminense leading 2-1. However, manager Mano Menezes had a heated confrontation with him, resulting in Marcelo being ordered to sit back down despite being ready to play. Reports suggested that he may not have been adhering to the coach’s instructions, leading to confusion on the sidelines.

The incident drew significant attention from fans, who were shocked by the spectacle. Unfortunately for Marcelo, this encounter marked his last appearance for Fluminense. The club issued a statement confirming the mutual termination of his contract, thanking him for his contributions during his time with the team.

“Fluminense FC and Marcelo Vieira announce the termination of the contract by mutual agreement between the parties,” the statement said. It acknowledged his contributions to the team, including victories in the Campeonato Carioca and the Conmebol Libertadores, while also highlighting that Marcelo’s legacy would continue to be honored at the club.
