Manchester United winger Amad Diallo expressed his frustration during Thursday’s Europa League match against Fenerbahce, where he was only substituted in during the 89th minute, sparking debates among fans.

The 22-year-old started the season strongly, earning the club’s Player of the Month award for August with standout performances against teams like Manchester City, Brighton, and Fulham. Despite this success, he has only made one start in United’s last five matches, as manager Erik ten Hag has favored other players.

With injuries affecting United’s squad, many expected Diallo to play a significant role against Fenerbahce. Instead, Ten Hag made the unexpected decision to position full-back Noussair Mazraoui as a No. 10. Later, when United sought a winning goal with the score at 1-1, Ten Hag opted to substitute Antony rather than Marcus Rashford.

After the match, Ten Hag defended his choices, saying, “Amad has been playing well, but I have to acknowledge Antony’s contributions in training. He’s a consistent threat, which made me think he could make a difference tonight.”

Diallo finally entered the match due to Antony’s injury, but many fans felt this change was too late. United’s coaching staff, including Ruud van Nistelrooy, Rene Hake, and Andreas Georgson, tried to support the visibly disappointed Ivorian as he prepared to come on at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

The situation quickly gained attention on social media, with fans sharing their thoughts. One supporter tweeted, “Regardless of Amad’s talent, starting a right-back in his position is disrespectful.” Another noted, “He has every reason to be upset.”

Other fans echoed these sentiments, with one saying, “Amad has shown his attacking abilities all season. Substituting Antony before him? It makes no sense.” Another added, “Seeing Amad so dejected is understandable. Why leave one of our best attackers on the bench while chasing a goal? It just doesn’t compute.”

A fifth fan summarized the sentiment: “If you’re Amad Diallo, tonight was a clear indication of how the club currently views you.”
