During this summer’s transfer window, the 23-year-old left Bologna in Italy to join United for a reported fee of £36.5 million.

Zirkzee made a strong start at Old Trafford, scoring on his Premier League debut against Fulham. However, he has struggled to find the net since, going ten matches without a goal. Recent reports suggest he may be seeking a transfer in January, just six months after his arrival.

Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo indicated that Zirkzee might be considering a return to Serie A if his situation at United does not improve.

Fans also noticed that Zirkzee ‘liked’ a satirical video on Instagram that mocked his positioning during games, where the creator pretended to be Zirkzee, illustrating how he frequently drops into midfield instead of playing as a striker.

When he first joined, Zirkzee acknowledged his tendency to drop back, stating, “I occasionally drop down to midfield. I don’t do that for myself but to help the team. I am what I call a false striker. Not a No. 9, not a No. 10. I am a 9.5! That’s my game. Maybe I’m a little different than others. But being different is good, right?”

Commenting on Zirkzee’s situation, former England and Arsenal player Paul Merson said: “Joshua Zirkzee did well at Bologna, but it’s a different game here in England, especially at Manchester United. You’re always under scrutiny at this club; if you miss a chance or don’t get one, it’s a topic of discussion. What’s his best position? Where do they play him?
