I simply wanted to let you know that some terrible news has been confirmed for Bologna before their match against Liverpool.

One of Bologna’s key players is racing to regain fitness for their Champions League match against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Vincenzo Italiano’s squad took a significant hit over the weekend when their leading scorer, Santiago Castro, had to leave the field during the second half of their 1-1 draw with Atalanta due to a calf injury.

As reported by Quotidiano Sportivo, the 20-year-old is trying to recover quickly for the match at Anfield and is eager to prove his readiness before kickoff for such a prestigious game. The young Argentine is not the only injury worry for Bologna, as veteran midfielder Remo Freuler is also struggling after sustaining an injury against the Europa League champions on Saturday.

If Castro is unable to overcome his calf issue in time for the clash with Liverpool, it would be a significant setback for Bologna.

He is the only player in Italiano’s squad who has scored more than once this season and has found the net in each of his last three Serie A matches, showing impressive form ahead of the trip to Anfield.

Even if Castro cannot play, his likely substitute, Thijs Dallinga, could still be a threat; he scored in both matches against Liverpool during the Europa League group stage last autumn, although he has yet to score for his new club since transferring this summer.

Regardless of whether Castro or the Dutchman leads the attack for Bologna, Liverpool will need to stay alert defensively throughout the match, given the scoring ability of both forwards.

While Castro’s potential absence would be a significant disadvantage for Bologna, it’s always unfortunate to see players injured, and we hope he recovers quickly from the calf issue he sustained over the weekend.
