Erik ten Hag Visibly Displeased by His Players’ Attitude On and Off the Pitch

Manchester United kicked off their Europa League campaign with a frustrating 1-1 draw against FC Twente at Old Trafford. After taking the lead with Christian Eriksen’s goal in the 35th minute, United couldn’t hold onto their advantage and were punished when Sam Lammers equalized following an Eriksen mistake.
Erik ten Hag, clearly unhappy with his team’s lackluster performance and attitude, criticized their failure to secure the win. “It was their game of a lifetime, they fought for every inch, and we didn’t match their intensity,” he said after the match. “You have to give 100 percent, kill the game off, and we didn’t do that.”
The Dutch manager’s frustration was heightened by Eriksen’s remarks, who noted that the team sensed Twente’s greater desire for victory. “We wanted more, but in the end, it wasn’t good enough. It looked like they wanted it more, and that can’t be right,” the midfielder reflected, highlighting the troubling atmosphere in the locker room.
This disappointing draw marks a continuation of United’s struggle to win their opening match in a European campaign since 2020. For a team with high ambitions under Ten Hag, such a sluggish start is concerning. The manager will certainly expect a much stronger response, both on and off the pitch, as they aim to correct their course and establish their dominance in the tournament.
