Jordan Henderson has made it clear that he would not discourage Mohamed Salah from considering a move to Saudi Arabia, his former Liverpool teammate.

Henderson faced significant criticism when he left Liverpool to join Saudi club Al Ettifaq last summer. The controversy continued when he terminated his contract after just six months to make a return to Europe with Ajax.

Liverpool, who also saw Fabinho move to Al Ittihad last summer, is anticipated to receive further interest from Saudi Arabia this year. Al Ettifaq is reportedly targeting Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara, both of whom will be out of contract in the summer. Moreover, Salah is reportedly a prime target for the broader Saudi Pro League.

With Salah entering the final 12 months of his contract, Al Hilal is expected to pursue him at the end of the current season. When questioned about discouraging Salah from making a move to the Middle East, Henderson responded, “No, definitely not.” He emphasized that everyone is different, acknowledging that some big players are enjoying their experience in the region, while others might face challenges. Henderson expressed his respect for the opportunity he had in Saudi Arabia and refrained from speaking negatively about the league or the clubs.

Salah continues to find immense satisfaction with his current situation at Liverpool, with the team back in contention for the Premier League title this season. However, officials from Saudi Arabia are eager to renew their interest in the Egyptian international, aiming to secure their long-desired top target.

Salah is anticipated to delay any decision regarding his future until later this year. Due to the terms of his contract, the 31-year-old holds considerable influence over his destiny, although Liverpool retains the option of refusing to engage in negotiations, potentially allowing Salah to depart on a free transfer in 2025.

In the ongoing season, Salah has maintained his status as one of the Premier League’s standout performers, amassing 14 goals and contributing eight assists in 20 appearances, significantly contributing to Liverpool’s lead at the top of the league table.
