🚨⚽Nico Williams’s agents explain why Athletic Club star didn’t leave for Barcelona
The Spain star was highly sought after in Catalunya.
Throughout the summer, Nico Williams was a prominent subject as Barcelona aimed to acquire the Athletic Club forward. In the end, Williams opted to stay with Athletic Club, and his agents have now disclosed that his choice was motivated by his wish to spend another year with the Basque side.
“The young player has had an exceptional year and has proven it by being the standout performer in the European Championships,” Félix Tainta and Juan Oyaga told AS.
“Naturally, we’ve experienced a lot of activity and travel, which has been quite intense over a short period. As the transfer window closes, it can be a bit stressful, but we enjoy it. The player has chosen to stay; he wanted to spend another year working with us.”
Williams will continue with Athletic Club for the 2024-25 season, but the transfer saga could pick up again next summer. There is already speculation that Barcelona might try to sign Nico again next year.
