Liverpool Monitoring Championship Prodigy Chris Rigg

Liverpool is reportedly interested in Sunderland’s 17-year-old midfielder Chris Rigg, who has attracted attention from several top clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.

Rigg made headlines in August 2023 by becoming Sunderland’s youngest-ever goalscorer during a Carabao Cup match against Crewe and impressed further with a goal in his league debut during a 5-0 win over Southampton. Despite his youth, he has already made 30 senior appearances and scored three goals.

Sunderland, currently leading the Championship, hopes to keep Rigg, but he is carefully considering his options. Experts predict that any potential transfer could involve a substantial fee due to his significant potential. Former England international Carlton Palmer has suggested that Rigg’s move could involve “big money.”

Rigg’s development is closely watched, with some analysts believing he has a brighter future than peers like Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. If Liverpool signs him, Rigg could follow a path similar to Harvey Elliott, potentially spending time on loan or under careful development before fully integrating into Liverpool’s first team.
