Erling Haaland’s Position on New Manchester City Deal Revealed Amid Barcelona and Real Madrid Interest

Erling Haaland has begun the 2024-25 season in outstanding form for Manchester City, scoring seven goals, including two hat-tricks, in his first three games. Despite his stellar performances and satisfaction at the Etihad, speculation about his future persists, particularly with interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Haaland has three years remaining on his Manchester City contract. However, negotiating a new deal has been challenging. While he is open to extending his stay, his representatives have insisted that the release clauses in his current contract remain intact.

When Haaland joined City in 2022 on a five-year deal, it included release clauses set to take effect from 2024. An initial clause related to Pep Guardiola’s tenure was deactivated after Guardiola renewed his contract, but another clause, reportedly around £150 million, will activate in 2025. This clause could potentially allow Haaland to leave, though details and fees may evolve over time.

Sources indicate that while these clauses are not tied to specific clubs, both Barcelona and Real Madrid are aware of the situation. Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, has shown strong interest in Haaland, viewing him as a potential long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.

Manchester City has been working to offer Haaland a new contract that might remove or delay these release clauses. Discussions are underway to possibly adjust the activation date, potentially extending it to 2026.

Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has assured City that the clauses are intended to maintain flexibility for Haaland, not to pressure a move.

As the season progresses, Haaland’s contract situation will remain a significant topic, with Manchester City and interested clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid closely watching developments.
