**BREAKING NEWS:** Fabrizio Romano reports live that a furious Arne Slot has called for the sale of a player despite Manchester United’s victory, criticizing his ‘lazy’ performance at Old Trafford and failure to meet expectations. Slot stated, “He definitely needs to be sold in the next transfer window. It was a mistake keeping him at the club; he hasn’t been able to do anything right. It’s a terrible error having him in my team.” Arne Slot expresses frustration with the ‘lazy’ player.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher criticized Dominik Szoboszlai for squandering a key opportunity during Liverpool’s dominant 3-0 Premier League win over Manchester United on Sunday, September 1.

In a match where Liverpool, now managed by Arne Slot after Jurgen Klopp’s departure in May, excelled at Old Trafford, Luis Diaz shone in the first half with two goals, and Mohamed Salah added a third in the 56th minute to cement Liverpool’s supremacy.

However, the game took an unexpected turn in the 80th minute when Szoboszlai, presented with a clear chance to extend Liverpool’s lead, failed to score. Instead of taking a direct shot, the Hungarian midfielder hesitated and took multiple touches within United’s penalty area, ultimately missing the opportunity.

Carragher, commenting for Sky Sports, was sharply critical of Szoboszlai’s decision-making at that moment. He voiced his frustration, questioning Szoboszlai’s judgment and highlighting the potential risks had United scored and shifted the momentum. Carragher’s remarks, reported by the Mirror, included: “What is he doing? Is he trying to be cocky? If United score, the crowd gets behind them… we saw what happened to Everton yesterday [in their 3-2 loss to Bournemouth]. That’s ridiculous from Szoboszlai. It’s just ridiculous, it’s unprofessional.”

Manchester United legend Gary Neville also added his voice to the criticism, describing Szoboszlai’s actions as careless. Neville commented, “He’s messing around there. His teammates should really give him a hard time for that. It’s unacceptable. It’s something you’d expect to see in training, not in a match at Old Trafford.”

Despite the missed chance, Szoboszlai, who joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig for £60 million last summer, had a generally strong performance. The 23-year-old midfielder completed 35 of 39 passes, provided an assist, created three scoring opportunities, and won three of his five duels during the game.

On the other hand, Luis Diaz, who played a key role in Liverpool’s victory, expressed his happiness after the match. Speaking to Sky Sports, Diaz reflected on his performance and Liverpool’s overall success, saying, “I’m very pleased to score goals and contribute to the team’s success. The most important thing is that the team is performing well, winning games, and securing this crucial victory. I’m excited about what’s ahead. I’m thrilled with my performance and aim to maintain this form and continue helping the team.”

Diaz, at 27 years old, had a standout performance at Old Trafford. He scored his first goal with a well-placed header and followed it up with a precise first-time right-footed strike, bringing his tally to three goals for the 2024-25 season. So far, the 55-cap Colombia international has amassed 27 goals and 14 assists in 101 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool.

While Liverpool’s win marked a strong statement early in the season, Szoboszlai’s missed opportunity will likely remain a focal point as the team seeks to build on their success in upcoming matches. With the club showing promise under Slot’s management, the spotlight will be on how Szoboszlai and the rest of the squad respond to the critiques from Carragher and Neville, especially as they aim to contend for the Premier League title.
