Furious Man Utd fans voice anger at ‘crazy’ transfer fee as talented player ‘agrees’ deal to leave

Manchester United fans are outraged with the club following an “agreement” that will result in one of their most promising players leaving this summer.

Erik ten Hag is now in his third season as Manchester United’s manager, aiming to build on the momentum from the club’s unexpected FA Cup success during an otherwise lackluster campaign.

Last season, United finished 8th in the Premier League, marking their worst-ever result in the competition, and only secured a return to European football through their cup victory.

Despite the overall gloomy atmosphere surrounding United, there has been a spark of optimism thanks to a decent performance in the Community Shield and an opening-day win against Fulham.

The arrivals of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Joshua Zirkzee have also excited fans, but the way in which players are leaving the club continues to frustrate the United faithful.

According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, United have agreed to sell 22-year-old Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos in a deal worth €6m.

The Uruguay international joined United in 2020 for €9m but has struggled to consistently break into the first team.

Pellistri made 25 appearances for United, providing two assists but failing to score despite showing promise in some of his substitute appearances.

Given that he played just 611 minutes over four seasons, his departure isn’t shocking, but the low fee United are set to receive has disappointed fans.

Pellistri is the latest in a series of players to leave Old Trafford for a loss, a troubling pattern that has emerged in the “post-Fergie” era, prompting fans to express their frustrations on social media.

One fan wrote: “He’s a national starting winger that’s 22 and we get €6m, it’s crazy, we’re so bad with sales.”

Another added: “If he was a Chelsea or City player, that’s at least €20m. The club is struggling, and our reputation is low. Roll on the good years ahead though, we’ll rise again.”

A third commented: “We made a loss. Unbelievable. How can City sell players like Delap for £20m and we get €5 million for Pellistri?”
