Manchester United legend Gary Neville has expressed strong disapproval of the club’s decision to sell Scott McTominay, especially after his impressive showing in the Premier League opener against Fulham. McTominay, valued at £30 million, has been identified as a player likely to be offloaded as Manchester United intensifies its search for a new defensive midfielder, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte as the top target.
Manchester United is currently negotiating with PSG, who have set a high asking price of £51 million for Ugarte. The club is trying to lower the fee, with agent Jorge Mendes playing a key role in the discussions. If United manages to secure Ugarte or another midfielder like Burnley’s Sander Berge, McTominay’s position at the club could be in jeopardy.
Napoli has shown interest in McTominay, but they are reluctant to meet Manchester United’s valuation. While United is open to a loan deal with an obligation to buy, Napoli has not favored this option. Fulham had a £20 million bid for McTominay rejected but might return with a higher offer.
Despite McTominay’s positive impact during his brief appearance against Fulham, his future at Old Trafford remains uncertain as the club continues to explore options to strengthen its midfield. Gary Neville’s opposition to McTominay’s potential sale highlights concerns about losing a player who has a strong connection to the club and the ability to contribute when needed.
