In a move that shook the football world, Jürgen Klopp announced back in January that he would step down as Liverpool manager after the 23/24 season. Taking over in June, former Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar boss Arne Slot is preparing for his first experience of Premier League football.
Slot, 45, has made an impressive start, guiding Liverpool to victories in all three matches of their pre-season tour in the United States, defeating Real Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
As Slot begins to implement his style, fans have noticed one particular change from Klopp’s era. On social media, a fan observed: “Slot has banned players from doing back heels/drag back flicks in rondos. Under Klopp, these were common when space was tight, but Slot wants players to ‘open’ their bodies instead.”
The fan continued, noting that Joe Gomez was even given a bib and sent into the circle for using a flick, despite it being successful. Another supporter highlighted Slot’s attention to detail, praising his focus on encouraging players to open their bodies and play forward passes at the correct angle, rather than relying on flashy flicks.
Liverpool is set to face Sevilla and Las Palmas before kicking off their 24/25 Premier League season against newly promoted Ipswich Town.
