Manchester United might find themselves in a familiar situation as the new Premier League season approaches, potentially relying on an inexperienced young striker once again. Last season, Rasmus Hojlund was heavily relied upon by Erik ten Hag due to limited options, forcing the manager to use him frequently. The early signing of Joshua Zirkzee aimed to address this issue by adding another striker. However, the lack of financial backing from the Glazers during both the summer and January transfer windows left Ten Hag with no choice but to continue depending on Hojlund, especially with Anthony Martial struggling with injuries and Marcus Rashford’s inconsistent form.

Recognizing the fragility of United’s attacking line, INEOS acted quickly by bringing in the former Bologna star. Unfortunately, with Hojlund now expected to be sidelined for six weeks, the club faces the same dilemma once again.

**Striker Shortage**

While Ten Hag has mentioned that both Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho could play in a false nine role, Marcus Rashford’s preference for the left wing makes the situation less than ideal. United has been exploring the possibility of signing another striker, with names like Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin being discussed.

According to *The Peoples Person*, Brentford’s striker might only become an option if the London club lowers their asking price to below £40 million. Currently, Brentford is demanding £50 million, a price that seems unlikely to be met, especially given that Toney’s contract expires in 2025.

Despite interest from several clubs, *Football Insider* reports that United is considering a last-minute move for Toney, provided all conditions are met.

**Late Move for Toney**

Ivan Toney, a proven Premier League striker known for his ability to hold up play, could offer something United’s current forwards lack. *Football Insider* suggests that Manchester United is preparing a late bid for Toney as they look to secure an experienced center-forward. However, to afford Toney and meet his wage demands, United would likely need to make significant sales, which seems challenging at this stage.

Much will depend on how United starts the season; a poor performance might prompt INEOS to step in with additional support.
