The club initially agreed to pay €30 million for Roque, with potential increases up to €61 million, structured in €5 million installments every six months. Barcelona aims to adopt a similar tactic for acquiring Silva to manage their financial constraints effectively while reinforcing their squad.
The Catalan club faces financial challenges that require compliance with the 1/1 rule, which allows the reinvestment of all transfer revenues. Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s president, is considering this phased payment approach to balance costs and adhere to Financial Fair Play regulations.
Recent rumors suggest Silva is keen on joining Barcelona and is willing to facilitate the move. However, his £50 million release clause from his contract extension with City poses a financial hurdle. Therefore, Barcelona’s proposed installment plan, pending City’s approval, could be a viable solution to securing Silva’s transfer.
