Reports indicate that a “Manchester United icon” has been approached to join Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff, marking a potentially significant development.

Ten Hag is gearing up for the 2024/25 season after receiving backing from INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe following a season-end review at Manchester United. According to Fabrizio Romano, Ten Hag is eager to bring Ruud van Nistelrooy back to the club. Romano states that Van Nistelrooy has been contacted to join Ten Hag’s new coaching team.

A decision is anticipated next week, with Van Nistelrooy also linked to potentially replacing Vincent Kompany at Burnley. Romano hinted at possible changes in the Manchester United staff.

Burnley have started discussions with Ruud van Nistelrooy regarding their vacant managerial position. His previous stint in senior management was at PSV Eindhoven during the 2022/23 season, where he resigned due to a perceived lack of support.

The Clarets, relegated from the Premier League last season, are keen to bring him back to England. However, they face competition from Manchester United, where Van Nistelrooy had a highly successful playing career.

During his time at Old Trafford, Van Nistelrooy made 219 appearances and scored 150 goals across all competitions. He played a crucial role in Manchester United’s Premier League triumph in the 2002/03 season and also secured victories in the FA Cup and League Cup.
