Manchester United are reportedly poised to make a significant offer for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo this summer, with Liverpool also interested in the Brazilian star.

Rodrygo, 23, joined Real Madrid in 2019 and has since played a crucial role in winning nine major trophies, including a Champions League and two La Liga titles. He is regarded as one of the top young wingers worldwide, having made 42 appearances this season, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists.

The potential sale of Rodrygo is linked to Real Madrid’s plans to create space for Kylian Mbappe, who is likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain for the Bernabeu. This has attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs, with Manchester United and Liverpool at the forefront of the race for his signature.

According to a report from Spain, Manchester United are ready to break their transfer record to acquire Rodrygo. Defensa Central states that United are prepared to offer €120 million (£102.9 million) and could go as high as €150 million (£128.7 million) to outbid Liverpool.

If this deal proceeds, Rodrygo would become Manchester United’s most expensive signing, surpassing the £90 million spent on Paul Pogba in 2016. Sir Jim Ratcliffe aims to make Old Trafford a premier destination for developing top talents, and Rodrygo fits this vision perfectly. Although Ratcliffe typically avoids spending massive fees, he views Rodrygo as a long-term investment.

Rodrygo’s quality would allow him to integrate seamlessly into Manchester United’s starting XI, providing competition for players like Antony and Marcus Rashford, who have struggled with form this season.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are preparing for the potential departure of Mohamed Salah at the end of the season. Salah, whose contract expires in 2025, was the subject of a £150 million bid from Al Ittihad last summer and is expected to receive another offer soon. If Liverpool sells Salah, they will need a new superstar winger, making Rodrygo an attractive target.
