Man Utd coach reveals real reason why Jadon Sancho refused to apologise to Erik ten Hag

A Manchester United coach has explained why Jadon Sancho chose not to apologize to manager Erik ten Hag following their public fallout.
United acquired Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million in 2021, but his career at the club took a downturn last September when Ten Hag removed him from the first team. The conflict began after Ten Hag excluded Sancho from the squad for a match against Arsenal, citing the player’s insufficient training level.
Sancho publicly responded on social media, stating: “Please don’t believe everything you read. I have conducted myself very well in training this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into. I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!”
Sancho’s refusal to apologize led to his omission from United’s matches, eventually resulting in a loan return to Dortmund in January until the season’s end.
Former Premier League striker and United coach Benni McCarthy clarified Sancho’s perspective. McCarthy, who joined United’s coaching staff in 2022, shared his views during an interview with 947.
He said, “I spoke to the manager and suggested that Sancho felt an apology would mean admitting to the accusations against him—being lazy and not training hard. If you are from the streets, no one wants to apologize because then you’re admitting you are not training well, you are lazy, everything you are accused of.”
McCarthy attempted to mediate, speaking to Sancho as a coach, mentor, and friend. However, Sancho remained resolute: “I ain’t apologizing because if I do, I’m apologizing for being lazy, always being late, not giving my best. That’s what I’m apologizing for.”
Sancho has since been instrumental in helping Dortmund reach the Champions League final, where they will face Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium. Both Dortmund and Sancho are reportedly interested in making his move back to Germany permanent.
