Liverpool ‘preparing shock raid’ on Premier League rivals for Mo Salah ‘replacement’

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to raid a Premier League rival to secure a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah. Despite Salah’s public declaration of his desire to win more trophies with Liverpool next season, his future remains uncertain.

The Egyptian winger’s contract expires next summer, and while Liverpool plan to prioritize contract talks, Salah remains a prime target for Saudi Pro League clubs. Last year, Al Ittihad’s £150m offer for Salah was rejected, but they are expected to test Liverpool’s resolve again this summer.

Even if Salah stays at Anfield, Liverpool may still seek another right-sided attacker due to a lack of depth in that position. French outlet L’Equipe reports that Liverpool, under the management of Arne Slot, have identified Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo as a summer target. However, they could face competition from Newcastle. Despite an injury-hit season, the 24-year-old Mbeumo managed nine goals and six assists in 25 Premier League appearances.

Mbeumo, a left-footed winger with a style similar to Salah’s, is seen as an ideal target by Fenway Sports Group’s head of football, Michael Edwards, who returned to the club following Jurgen Klopp’s departure. Edwards will have the final say in recruiting Slot’s transfer targets. The Cameroon international recently admitted it might be the right time to leave Brentford. “I have spent five years at Brentford, at a club that has allowed me to grow and pass a milestone but yes, I would like to play in the biggest competitions, at the best clubs,” he told L’Equipe. “It is tantalising to see some big clubs interested in me. We will see.”

Mbeumo is under contract at Brentford until 2026, with the Bees holding an option to extend his deal for an additional year. With star forward Ivan Toney also expected to leave this summer, Brentford may demand a significant fee to part with Mbeumo.
