Liverpool is actively seeking a successor to Jurgen Klopp, who announced his departure from the club at the end of the current season back in January. The task of filling Klopp’s shoes is no small feat, and among the contenders for the job, one name stands out: Xabi Alonso, the esteemed former Liverpool player.

Alonso has been making waves in the managerial world as the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen. Under his guidance, Leverkusen has surged to the top of the Bundesliga, maintaining an unbeaten record for the season. Their recent victory over Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal quarter-final only solidified Alonso’s reputation as a skilled tactician.

His success at Leverkusen hasn’t gone unnoticed. In addition to Liverpool’s interest in him, reports suggest that Chelsea is also considering him as a potential replacement for Mauricio Pochettino if the Argentine fails to turn things around at Stamford Bridge.

According to Alonso’s former teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, coaching Liverpool is Alonso’s ultimate dream. Schweinsteiger, along with another ex-teammate Claudio Pizarro, believes that Alonso is destined to take over the reins at Anfield someday.

“I know Xabi, and I truly believe that coaching Liverpool is his ultimate dream,” Schweinsteiger said in an interview with footballwave. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at Liverpool someday. I hope he continues to make his mark in the Bundesliga for a while longer because he has been a tremendous asset to the league. If it weren’t for Leverkusen’s strong performance, Bayern would have a much larger lead in the standings. The title race would look very different.”

As the speculation continues to swirl, one thing is clear: Xabi Alonso’s potential return to Liverpool has the football world buzzing with anticipation.
