BREAKING NEWS: According to Fabrizio Romano, Erik ten Hag criticized Manchester United’s prominent player for his below-par showing at Old Trafford in the team’s disappointing draw against Liverpool. Ten Hag labeled the player’s subdued performance as lackluster and uninspiring. The player’s display was deemed unsatisfactory by Erik ten Hag for Manchester United. “Klopp is ‘unimpressed’ with Manchester United’s ‘sluggish’ performance during the ‘shocking’ draw against Liverpool.”

Following the 2-2 draw with Liverpool at home, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag voiced his frustration over squandering three consecutive winning positions in the Premier League over the past seven days. On Sunday (April 7), the Red Devils failed to clinch victory against their arch-rivals, unable to maintain a lead for the third consecutive league game, following a 1-1 draw with Brentford and a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea midweek.
Jurgen Klopp’s team seized the lead in the 23rd minute courtesy of Luis Diaz. United skipper Bruno Fernandes leveled the score with an impressive equalizer after halftime, drawing level against the run of play. Kobbie Mainoo’s remarkable curler midway through the first half propelled the Red Devils ahead. However, Mohamed Salah converted a penalty for Liverpool six minutes from time, resulting in an exhilarating four-goal draw.
Reflecting on the triple setback, Ten Hag expressed his disappointment, stating, “On one hand, I am disappointed that we have dropped seven points in one week after leading, but we have to take responsibility for our mistakes. There have been some poor decisions, not just from one player. However, we must improve, and the sooner, the better. On the other hand, I am immensely proud. You can see the progress we are making, and the potential of this squad is extraordinary – that makes me proud.”
Ten Hag reiterated, “We were losing battles in decisive areas, particularly with young players who lacked confidence to win those duels. We encouraged them in the second half to step up, and they responded.” Currently placed sixth in the standings with 49 points from 31 games, Manchester United trails the leading duo of Arsenal and Liverpool by 22 points.
Looking forward, Manchester United faces a profoundly disappointing season. With a top-two finish now unattainable, Ten Hag’s team is aiming to secure a top-four position and return to the UEFA Champions League. Trailing fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur by 11 points, United seeks to end a three-game winless league streak when they confront Bournemouth on Saturday (April 13). Earlier in the campaign, the Red Devils were eliminated from Europe after finishing a disappointing fourth in their Champions League group. While their EFL Cup title defense ended prematurely, they have progressed to the FA Cup semifinals, where they will meet Championship side Coventry City on April 21.
