VAR faced criticism after a contentious decision made by the referee during the Chelsea versus Manchester United game, as they permitted a winning goal that seemed to be offside.

In a pivotal league showdown against Chelsea, Manchester United encountered a significant challenge as a loss would greatly diminish their hopes of clinching a spot in the Champions League for the next season.
The game at Stamford Bridge began disastrously for United, with Conor Gallagher scoring early on, beating Andre Onana to provide Chelsea with an early lead. Shortly thereafter, Cole Palmer increased Chelsea’s lead by calmly converting a penalty after Antony fouled Marc Cucurella.
As Gallagher scored, a revealing statistic highlighted United’s underwhelming season.
It was disclosed that United had now conceded 500 attempts in the Premier League this season, marking the first instance in a decade that they had allowed such a high number of attempts in a single league campaign.
Nevertheless, United discovered a ray of hope later in the first half when Moises Caicedo’s misplaced pass through the Chelsea defense was seized upon by Alejandro Garnacho, who seized the opportunity to reduce the deficit by slotting the ball past Dorde Petrovic.
In a remarkable turn of events, United managed to equalize just five minutes later. Bruno Fernandes leapt highest to nod home Diogo Dalot’s cross at the back post, stunning the home crowd and bringing the scores level.
Chelsea had an opportunity to regain the lead just before halftime, but Conor Gallagher’s powerful shot from a difficult angle struck the post, denying Chelsea the chance.
As the game progressed, United appeared poised for a remarkable comeback victory when Alejandro Garnacho headed home Antony’s excellent cross.
However, Chelsea launched a stunning late surge, with Cole Palmer scoring twice in injury time to secure a remarkable 4-3 win for Chelsea.
With this defeat, United’s tally of league losses for the season reached 12, leaving them just one short of setting a club record for defeats in a single Premier League campaign.
