Barcelona
FIFA has officially announced the dismissal of the officials and referees from the recent Real Madrid vs Barcelona match. This decision comes after the referee failed to issue a Penalty following a foul on Ronald Araujo
Retired Spanish referee Mateu Lahoz has shared his perspective on a disputed incident during Real Madrid’s 2-1 win against Barcelona in Sunday’s derby match.
Near the end of the game, Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo—deployed as a forward—entered the penalty area to connect with a cross but was knocked aside by a shoulder challenge from Dani Carvajal. Despite Barcelona’s protests for a spot kick, the official waved play on, sparking controversy among supporters and commentators.
Lahoz provided his view on what happened:
“The sole explanation for why Carvajal’s contact on Araujo didn’t result in a penalty is the match’s status as a Clasico. In a regular fixture, that would be called.”
The ex-referee’s remarks imply that the significance of El Clasico could affect how officials make decisions, with major matches potentially causing referees to be more cautious about giving game-changing penalties.
Video replays demonstrated visible contact between the two players, causing the Uruguayan defender to lose his footing. Though opinions differ on whether it was a clear foul, Lahoz’s viewpoint has sparked renewed conversation about officiating consistency in Spain’s most important matches.
**Valverde Powers Through Illness in Derby Win**
Fede Valverde delivered a strong showing for Real Madrid in their 2-1 triumph over Barcelona in La Liga on October 26, 2025.
The Uruguayan played at right-back and effectively contained most of Barcelona’s attacking threats on his flank.
According to DAZN journalist Sergio Quirante, Valverde was battling gastroenteritis before the match.
Despite his stomach ailment, he persevered and completed more than 60 minutes for Real Madrid.
Serving as captain, Valverde led Los Blancos effectively, helping secure the derby victory that extended their lead to five points at the summit of La Liga.
