Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners has expressed his eagerness to secure a move to a top Premier League club this summer.

With an impressive record of 10 goals and 3 assists in 25 Serie A matches this season, Koopmeiners has emerged as the standout performer for Atalanta, despite the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League during his tenure.

Having played alongside current Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund last season, Koopmeiners is familiar with both members of the Red Devils’ squad and their scouting department. During their time together, Koopmeiners featured in 29 matches across all competitions alongside Højlund, providing an assist for the striker on one occasion.

Since then, Koopmeiners has been consistently linked with a move away from Atalanta, with reports suggesting that United have deployed scouts to monitor his performances on multiple occasions throughout the season.

Discussing his immediate plans, Koopmeiners has acknowledged his desire to depart Atalanta this summer and would welcome a transfer to a Premier League team.

“Last year, there was significant interest from Napoli. However, ultimately, the two clubs failed to reach an agreement,” Koopmeiners disclosed to De Telegraf (quotes via CorrieredelloSport). “I have informed Atalanta that I intend to move in the upcoming summer. However, a genuinely enticing opportunity must arise for me to leave Bergamo.

“My fiancée and I are enjoying our time in Italy, but for certain clubs in England, I could even tolerate the rainy days there,” he added. “I hope viable options emerge for me to consider. I also hope Atalanta receives a satisfactory fee for my transfer because I have cherished my time in Bergamo.

“I would be dishonest if I claimed to be unaware of the reports about the interest from Juventus and the attention Premier League clubs have shown towards me,” he admitted.

If Koopmeiners were to join United, it would mark the club’s fourth acquisition from Serie A under Erik ten Hag, following the signings of Andre Onana, the aforementioned Rasmus Hojlund, and Sofyan Amrabat.
