Man City 3-0 Man Utd: Fans Slam ‘Clueless’ Amorim For Starting ‘Disgraceful’ Duo

Manchester United supporters are furious with Ruben Amorim after the Red Devils’ boss opted to play a “disgraceful” duo during their heavy 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. There was extra crackle in the air at the Etihad Stadium as the Manchester Derby finally arrived, but by full-time, the fireworks had been entirely one-sided.
Erling Haaland struck twice to bring his tally in this fixture to eight goals in as many appearances, as Pep Guardiola’s side returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion. For the red half of the city, it was another reminder that the Old Trafford hierarchy may have spent far too heavily on improving the forward line while neglecting other areas that clearly needed attention.
United have scored from open play in only one of their four Premier League games so far, but that isn’t their only problem. Supporters have since singled out two players who, in their eyes, didn’t even deserve a start.
Fans Furious With ‘Clueless’ Amorim For Starting ‘Disgraceful’ Duo
There are still far too many questions and not enough answers in the Amorim era at Man United, with one of the main concerns being his continued reliance on the same 3-4-3 system – the very formation that oversaw the club’s worst finish in the Premier League era. Another issue is placing faith in players who may look good on paper but have struggled to deliver on the pitch.
Manuel Ugarte is one such example. His shaky 80-minute cameo saw him appear like a deer in headlights as Tijjani Reijnders and others ran rings around him. Luke Shaw is another. Once considered England’s best left-back, he did little to prove he still has it, winning only one ground duel and one aerial duel while being beaten far too easily by Jeremy Doku for the opener (see below).
The walls appear to be caving in on Amorim, who has managed just eight wins in his previous 30 games. Supporters can’t help but feel he hasn’t been doing himself any favours with his team selections.
“Similar pattern again. Ugarte uncomfortable on the ball. Shaw has a poor touch and loses the ball. We concede,” one X user wrote. “Amorim is an utter fool for playing these clowns.” Another user continued: “Playing Shaw and Ugarte is just stupid….AMORIM OUT!!!” as a third remarked:
“The goal started with Ugarte and Shaw being poor yet again. Amorim made subs but somehow chose to keep them both on. This is a horrible, horrible showing from Amorim. Clueless. Got everything wrong. Literally everything.”
The furious criticism just kept pouring on social media, with a fourth user adding: “Ugarte & Shaw is the hill Amorim chose to die.” Meanwhile, a fifth concluded: “The biggest crime of the entire week is Amorim starting Luke Shaw and Manuel Ugarte today.”
Whether Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS entourage still have patience with the Amorim project is certainly open to debate. The bigger worry for United, who sit 14th in the league table with very little hope of progress under their current boss, is that their fixture list doesn’t get any easier. Over the next four games, they face both Chelsea and league leaders Liverpool
