As Bad as Onana: 2 Man Utd Players ‘Wouldn’t Get in Grimsby’s Team’ After EFL Cup Loss

Manchester United fans want Andre Onana and two of his teammates to be left off the bus home from Blundell Park after their embarrassing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of EFL League Two outfit Grimsby Town.
Grimsby won 12-11 on penalties after a 2-2 draw against Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils, and it was a nightmare for the visitors. They were heavy favourites to advance through to the third round, although history had indicated a second-round affair would spell trouble.
Nobody envisioned United heading home out of one of their only two cup competitions but Bryan Mbeumo couldn’t convert his second spot kick. It was a night full of woeful performances, and Onana was among those whose supporters slammed.
Man Utd’s Ugarte & Dalot Woeful In Grimsby Upset
Manuel Ugarte applauding the Manchester United supporters
Some shocking displays from United players were torn to shreds by fans, but Diogo Dalot and Manuel Ugarte stuck out like sore thumbs. The pair had already come in for criticism after disappointing displays in a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal and a 1-1 draw away to Fulham.
Dalot was caught sleeping for Charles Vernam’s opener in the 22nd minute as the Mariners surged forward with ease before beating the ridiculously poor Andre Onana. The Portuguese right-back doesn’t suit Amorim’s system and tonight was the latest of a list of below-par performances that prove this.
The 26-year-old played on the right before managing to stay on and move to left wing-back after Patrick Dorgu was brought off. He was joined on the right side by Ugarte who has failed to win over United fans since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain for £50.5m.
Ugarte managed to bring Kobbie Mainoo down in the build-up to Vernam’s goal and then protested he’d been fouled. The Uruguayan had the ball picked off him too easily and it resulted in the opener.
Onana was then at fault for Tyrell Warren’s 30th-minute goal, helplessly rushing off his line to try and claim the ball, only for it to end up in the back of his net. The Cameroonian had another of his many nights to forget, but Dalot and Ugarte equally drew the ire of supporters.
United got themselves back into the game through Mbeumo’s fine finish in the 75th minute after coming off the bench. Harry Maguire then came to the rescue as usual with an 89th minute header to take the tie to penalties.
It was Amorim’s new signings who cost his side the shootout, with Matheus Cunha spurning a deciding spot kick to take the visitors through. Onana got his hands to about six attempts but failed to keep the ball out and Mbeumo hit the crossbar as Grimsby reeled in the big fish.

One fan told United to leave the big letdowns behind:
“Leave Onana, Ugarte and Dalot at Grimsby let them walk home”
Another supporter told Amorim:
“Dalot wouldn’t get in this Grimsby side.”
One fan echoed that stance:
“Can we leave Dalot and Onana here and pay their wage for them for this season? Would make decents subs for Grimsby.”
One supporter added:
“Ugarte is absolutely pathetic too. A disgrace to this institution. I don’t get how he keeps on getting mins on the pitch when I kid you not we have better options in our academy.”
