Liverpool ‘has reached an agreement’ regarding Darwin Nunez’s departure following a surprising turn of events involving Alexander Isak.
Liverpool is eager to bring Newcastle’s Alexander Isak into their impressive squad as the new season approaches, and a transfer may be imminent after a significant development.
Darwin Nunez seems to be nearing a departure from Liverpool, but their aspirations to replace him with Alexander Isak have faced a major setback.
The Reds have prioritized the Newcastle star after their initial bid of £110 million was turned down by Eddie Howe’s team.
The Magpies are unwilling to let Isak go for less than their £150 million asking price and would only consider selling him if they have secured a replacement beforehand.
Liverpool is also aware that after spending significantly this summer, they would need to facilitate a high-profile departure to re-enter the transfer market.
Reports from Italy indicate that Saudi club Al-Hilal is nearing a deal for Liverpool’s struggling forward Darwin Nunez.
It is reported that they have reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool regarding the transfer.
Liverpool’s asking price for Nunez was estimated to be around €70 million (£61 million), and if this deal materializes, it would provide essential funds for the reigning Premier League champions.
Nunez, who has also been linked to Napoli and AC Milan this summer, is currently negotiating his personal terms with Al-Hilal.
While his departure could theoretically pave the way for Liverpool to pursue Isak, the likelihood of that transfer is now precariously low.
Newcastle had pinned their hopes on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko stepping in for Isak if they decided to sell the Sweden international.
Eddie Howe’s team made two bids for the Slovenian striker, with the second one being accepted by the Bundesliga club.
On Wednesday, it was revealed that Sesko had chosen Manchester United over their Premier League competitors, with the Red Devils now nearing a deal.
This situation may leave Newcastle without a viable replacement, making them reluctant to negotiate regarding their own star striker.
Isak has returned to the North East in recent days after missing his team-mates on their pre-season tour of Asia due to a reported ‘thigh injury’. Howe has cautioned Isak that he cannot simply reintegrate into the team without effort.
As reported by the Daily Mail, he stated: “You must earn the right to train with us. We are Newcastle United. The player has a duty to be part of a team and a squad – one must conduct themselves appropriately. This is also a factor in the situation.
“We will ensure that every player understands this to earn the right to train with the group. No player can expect to behave poorly and still train with the team as if everything is normal.”
“Of course, I would like him to be (there), but whether he will be is uncertain at this moment,” the Newcastle manager added.
“We have been managing the time difference, preparing for training and matches. Others have been handling that situation back home.”
Nunez and Isak enter the new season following very different campaigns. The struggling Uruguayan managed only five Premier League goals last season, while Isak scored 27 across all competitions, including a goal that contributed to Newcastle’s victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
