Arne Slot’s team concluded their pre-season tour of Asia with a 3-1 win over Yokohoma in the J.League World Challenge, a match that marked the debut of Hugo Ekitike and saw Florian Wirtz score his first goal for Liverpool.

Now, following the unveiling of their new adidas kit and the announcement of squad numbers for summer signings including Wirtz (No 7) and Ekitike (No 22), and amidst ongoing transfer discussions, Liverpool will host their La Liga rivals for two consecutive friendlies, starting at 5pm and 8pm BST.

With the opportunity to field two distinct starting line-ups against the Basque team, who finished fourth in La Liga and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League last season, Slot may offer insights into his preferred starting eleven ahead of next weekend’s Community Shield, which will take place at Wembley against FA Cup champions Crystal Palace.

Following that, the 2025-26 Premier League season will commence, with the Reds set to welcome Bournemouth to Merseyside.

Liverpool has been proactive in the summer transfer window, acquiring German star Wirtz, Hungarian defender Milos Kerkez, Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong, and young French striker Hugo Ekitike. The Reds have also made a bold move to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak following Luis Diaz’s transfer to Bayern Munich.

After the two matches against Bilbao, Slot will shift his focus to the Community Shield where they will compete against Crystal Palace.
