Manchester United fans got to see Bryan Mbeumo in action for the first time on Sunday evening as he made his first outing for the club in their Premier League Summer Series clash against Everton.

The Cameroonian signed for United in a £70m deal from Brentford a few weeks ago but missed United’s matches against West Ham and Bournemouth due to a lack of fitness. He was finally given the chance to impress against Everton as he was named in the starting XI at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Mbeumo played the first-half as the two sides battled to an entertaining 2-2 draw. United took a 2-1 lead with 20 minutes remaining following Mason Mount’s superb strike, but Aydan Heaven’s unfortunate own-goal on the 75-minute mark ensured the two sides shared the spoils.

United fans have been making their feelings known about Mbeumo’s performance. Many have conceded he looked rusty and was clearly not fully match fit but still put in a promising performance.

One said: “Extremely rusty but showed some excellent first touches and first time layoffs”, while another commented: “Glimpse of a great player. It will get even better from here.”

A Man Utd fan commented: “Fitness needs to get there but the fluid motion w/ Bruno, Amad and Cunha was fire”, while another stated: “Definitely showed his quality. I can’t wait to see what he looks like after he’s had more time to integrate with the team. Exciting times!”

One supporter is very confident he will go on to play an integral role next season, writing: “Mbeumo will decide a lot of games for Manchester United next season.”

Ruben Amorim Gives Take on Mbeumo Debut

He was pleased with the Cameroonian’s display

Speaking after the match, Ruben Amorim expressed his pleasure at Mbeumo’s performance but conceded he still needs to ‘understand the position’. He said, per ManchesterEveningNews:

“I think he played well. He needs to understand the position, the movements. But I think the first touch, the way he connects with one touch, opened a lot of space. You can see that he’s not in the perfect condition physically, but he makes a lot of runs and that can stretch one team. So everything I was expecting he delivered.”

United will now travel back to England after winning the Premier League Summer Series. They play their final pre-season game on Saturday August 9 when they welcome Fiorentina to Old Trafford. Mbeumo will no doubt make his first outing in front of his own fans barring any fitness issues.
