BREAKING NEWS: Liverpool could be offered chance to sign Bayern superstar.

Liverpool may soon have the opportunity to bring Joao Palhinha back to the Premier League, a player they previously showed significant interest in during his time at Fulham.

Back in December 2023, journalist Christian Falk reported that the Reds had a serious interest in Palhinha before he opted for a move to Bayern Munich in the summer. However, the Portuguese international has struggled to cement a regular place in Bayern’s starting lineup, and now his future in Germany appears uncertain.

According to CaughtOffside, Palhinha’s representatives are actively exploring a possible return to English football, with Liverpool named among a number of Premier League clubs who could be approached. Bayern may be open to letting him go in order to focus on renewing Leon Goretzka’s contract, making Palhinha’s exit more plausible.

A return to England is reportedly high on the midfielder’s agenda, and Liverpool could be seen as an ideal destination. The situation draws parallels to the Reds’ signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern in 2020—both players were 29 at the time of potential transfer, play in a similar midfield role, and offer experience at the highest level.

Despite limited appearances in Bavaria, Palhinha has maintained solid performances when called upon. Stats from FBref highlight his quality: ranking in the top 2% for tackles, top 10% for blocks, top 9% for aerial duels won, and top 8% for pass completion among midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year.

While Palhinha could be a reliable addition to Liverpool’s midfield depth, questions remain over whether he’d be a first-choice option. With Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister already occupying key roles, the Portuguese star might have to settle for a rotational role—something that may influence both his decision and Liverpool’s willingness to negotiate, especially considering his age (he turns 30 in July) and recent fitness concerns.

Ultimately, whether Liverpool make a move could come down to Bayern’s asking price and Palhinha’s openness to being a squad player rather than an automatic starter.
