Andrew Robertson Breaks Silence on Outburst Toward Virgil van Dijk After Costly Own Goal

Liverpool clincheda dramatic 2-1 victory over West Ham on April 13 at Anfield, thanks to a last-gasp header from Virgil van Dijk in the 91st minute. However, the tension on the pitch wasn’t just between the two teams-Andrew Robertson was visibly furious after an unfortunate own goal,
The Reds took an early lead in the 18th minute, with Luis Díaz finishing off a superb right-wing move initiated by Mohamed Salah. Despite dominating possession and creating a flurry of chances throughout the match, Liverpool were stunned in the 87th minute when a miscommunication in defense led to a bizarre own goal.
A low cross from the left by West Ham caused confusion in Liverpool’s box. Van Dijk appeared hesitant to clear the danger, forcing Robertson into a reactive position behind him. The ball deflected off Robertson’s leg and into the net, leaving the Scot visibly
Speaking after the match, Robertson opened up about his reaction: “I was angry, no doubt,” he admitted. “It was a messy moment and I felt Virgil could’ve dealt with it earlier. When you’re under pressure late in a game like that, any hesitation can cost you—and unfortunately, it hit me and went in.”
Despite the mishap, Liverpool showed resilience. In the first minute of added time, Van Dijk redeemed himself with a powerful header from Alexis Mac Allister’s corner, securing three crucial points for the title-chasing Reds.
“Tm happy we won, of course,” Robertson added,“Football is full of ups and downs, and in the end, we all know what Virgil is capable of. He made up for it in the best way possible.” West Ham nearly equalized again in the 94th minute when Niclas Füllkrug’s header rattled the crossbar, but luck favored Liverpool on a night full of drama and emotion. The win extends Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier Leaque table to 13 points over second-place Arsenal, with just eight matches remaining. Under new manager Arne Slot, the Merseyside club is now firmly in control of the title race.
