Footage shows what caused absolute carnage at end of Merseyside Derby that saw two players and manager sent off
All chaos broke out after James Tarkowski’s dramatic equalizer in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. There were chaotic scenes during the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park as THREE red cards were handed out following James Tarkowski’s last-minute equalizer.
With Everton down 2-1 deep in stoppage time, the Toffees captain delivered a spectacular volleyed finish to bring the score level with the last kick of the match against Liverpool, sending the Goodison crowd into a frenzy.
After an extended VAR review that looked at a potential offside and possible foul on Ibrahima Konate, the goal was awarded, and Tarkowski scored his first goal of the season.
Everton fans erupted in cheers at the final whistle, and midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure decided to approach and taunt the Liverpool supporters.
This provoked Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, who pushed the Mali international, and a scuffle broke out as players from both teams rushed in.
Michael Oliver sent both players off after the incident, and Liverpool manager Arne Slot, along with his assistant Sipke Hulshoff, also received red cards after approaching the referee in a heated manner.
Footage soon surfaced, capturing the full incident and how tensions escalated.
After a brief exchange with Doucoure, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk attempted to speak with Oliver while urging his teammates to back away.
Eventually, the Reds complied, settling for a draw after dropping two points in the dying moments. Everton striker Beto opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a well-executed free-kick move that put him behind Liverpool’s defense, where he calmly slotted the ball past Alisson Becker.
Alexis Mac Allister quickly equalized with a magnificent glancing header from Mo Salah’s 14th Premier League assist of the season.
Having set a new record for most goal contributions away from home with his first-half assist, Salah then appeared to score what seemed like the winning goal in the 73rd minute.
But Tarkowski became the Everton hero with a powerful shot that ensured a point was shared between the teams.
Despite conceding a late goal, Liverpool now hold a seven-point lead over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table after 24 matches.
