Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has shared insights into what training sessions with Ruben Amorim are like, which may help explain Marcus Rashford’s unexpected exit.

On the last day of the January transfer window, United legend Rashford made a surprising loan move to Premier League rivals Aston Villa, where he will remain for the remainder of the season.

Speculation about Rashford’s departure began after it became clear he had fallen out with new manager Amorim, especially after being dropped for the local derby against Manchester City in December.

Now, Yoro, the winger’s United teammate, may have provided more clarity on the breakdown between Rashford and Amorim and how it might have led to Rashford leaving the club.

In July, United signed the young French defender Yoro from Lille for a reported £52.18million.

Just three months after his arrival, the 18-year-old had to adapt to a major shift at the club when former manager Erik ten Hag was dismissed and replaced by Amorim, who appears to be a stricter and more demanding manager.

However, Yoro has expressed that he enjoys working under the Portuguese coach, sharing details of his relationship with the new boss.

Speaking on the *Rio Ferdinand Presents Podcast*, Yoro said: “I have a good relationship with Ruben Amorim. I just try to do what he asks me to do. He’s big on communication with the players because he played at a top level. He’s been at a lot of clubs, so he understands how you feel when you’re not playing or when you’ve had a bad game. He knows how to speak with you, and that’s really important for me.”

Yoro continued to explain what makes working with Amorim rewarding and possibly offered more insight into what led to the fallout between Amorim and Rashford.

“In training, it’s really, I would say, hard,” Yoro said. “But it’s important. We have a lot of training, and for him, training is really important because you play the game like you train.”

“The most important thing is to be really good in training. If you are not working, if you are lazy in training, he won’t like you – he’ll kill you! It’s normal because, yeah, you play like you train.”

“He’s really strict on this because, to win games and trophies, you need to be disciplined outside the pitch. You need to be punctual.”

After the 2-1 win over City, Amorim seemed to indicate that training performances and off-pitch discipline were factors in his decision to drop both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the squad.

While Garnacho later earned his way back into the starting lineup, Rashford did not feature for United after Amorim’s tough comments, possibly suggesting that his performances or attitude in the demanding training sessions did not improve.
