Slot makes biggest Salah staying statement after Bournemouth meeting

Mo Salah’s future at Liverpool has been a topic of discussion among fans for quite some time, and Arne Slot has provided an update.
During the pre-Bournemouth press conference, the head coach was asked about reports of interest from Saudi Arabia in the winger and commented: “I would be surprised if there’s anyone anywhere around the world saying, ‘we don’t want Mo Salah.’
“He’s performed so well for so many years that everyone likely wants him, and he’s been doing well without my guidance for a long time, so he can probably continue making the best decisions for his career on his own.
“But my advice to him would be different from the one you just mentioned [from Saudi Arabia].”
The 46-year-old further stated: “Everybody wants him, including us—we want him to extend, of course.
“Yeah, that’s clear. But I’m not surprised that Saudi wants him, and I also wouldn’t be shocked if other countries are interested too.
“He’s experienced and wise enough, and he’s made so many smart decisions in his career that he’ll make the right choice for himself, and hopefully for us as well.”
This was a clear indication from the Dutchman that he wants Liverpool’s all-time Premier League goal scorer to remain at the club, a bold statement to make.

It’s no surprise that the player with the most goals and assists in the league this season has performed at such a level that his manager wants him to stay at least another year. It also reflects what he would do if he were in charge.
Now, the ball is in the court of the player and Richard Hughes to finalize this deal, though it’s unclear who is being more firm in these negotiations.
From observing what the 32-year-old was doing while his teammates faced PSV, it’s clear his focus is solely on achieving success for Liverpool on the field this season.
Let’s hope this proves true, and that we can finish the season with both silverware and a new contract for our goal-scoring hero.
