BREAKING NEWS: Mo Salah and two other Liverpool match changers are set to miss the Champions League match vs PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool Set to Rotate Squad for PSV Match with Key Trio Expected to Be Rested
Liverpool journalist David Lynch has provided initial insights into Arne Slot’s lineup ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven. Since the Reds have already secured a top-two finish in their group, the match holds little significance, and several regular starters are likely to be rested.
Youth Players Join Training Session
On Tuesday, Liverpool’s squad trained at Kirkby before departing for the Netherlands later that day. Notably, several academy players took part in the session, suggesting that Slot may provide chances to those with limited or no first-team experience this season.
Van Dijk, Salah, and Gravenberch Expected to Stay Behind in Liverpool
Lynch reports that Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Ryan Gravenberch are unlikely to make the trip to Eindhoven. He mentioned on his YouTube channel:
“From what I’ve heard, it’s highly unlikely that Van Dijk, Salah, and Gravenberch will be making the trip.”
He justified this decision, noting that these three players have accumulated the most minutes across all competitions. With an important Premier League match against Bournemouth approaching, resting them now seems like a sensible option.
“This is definitely the right decision. When the match doesn’t affect qualification, why risk your key players? It makes total sense to give them a rest and let others step in.”
Minimizing Risks
Liverpool supporters will likely agree with Lynch’s viewpoint. The PSV match offers a chance to rotate the squad, keeping important players fresh for more crucial fixtures. The memory of Jurgen Klopp’s 2020 misstep, when Diogo Jota was played in a meaningless group match against Midtjylland and suffered a three-month injury, serves as a cautionary lesson.
Additionally, some Liverpool players are just one yellow card away from suspension, reinforcing the need for rotation. This match gives fringe players and young talents the opportunity to gain valuable experience without taking unnecessary risks.
Squad Rotation a Rare Opportunity for English Clubs
Liverpool’s ability to rest players during the Champions League group stage is a privilege not enjoyed by other English clubs, all of whom still require results. With qualification already secured, the Reds can fully capitalize on this situation.
If there’s ever been a perfect chance to rest key players and give emerging talents a chance to shine, this is it.
