Just weeks after congratulating Cristiano Ronaldo on X, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is reportedly interested in buying Liverpool Football Club, according to the British newspaper Weekend Sport (via Sports Illustrated).

On November 25, 2024, Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr won 3-1 against Al-Gharafa in the AFC Champions League, with Ronaldo scoring twice.

Following the game, he shared on X: “Big win tonight!” Musk saw the post and replied with a simple “Congrats!”

Musk, who recently backed Donald Trump in the November US elections, is rumored to be exploring the possibility of increasing his influence in the UK by acquiring Liverpool.

The club is currently owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who acquired it in 2010 for £300 million. As of 2023, Forbes values Liverpool at over £4 billion, an amount Musk, with a net worth of $421.2 billion, could likely afford.

However, FSG President Mike Gordon and the group have not publicly stated any intentions to sell, so these reports should be treated with skepticism.

In response to Musk’s congratulatory message, Ronaldo playfully replied on X on November 26, 2024, poking fun at Musk with the comment: “@elonmusk… Glad your eyes have time for good ‘soccer.’”

Ronaldo has been in superb form for Al-Nassr this season, netting 16 goals and assisting 3 times in 19 appearances.

His performances have helped the team reach third place in the AFC Champions League Group B, with 13 points from six matches, just three points behind leaders Al-Hilal. Al-Nassr will resume play against Al-Akhdoud in the Saudi Pro League on January 9, 2025, after the winter break.
