Cristiano Ronaldo Reveals His Top Professionals at Manchester United, Excludes Marcus Rashford

During his second stint at Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo identified three players he regarded as “top professionals,” notably leaving Marcus Rashford off the list.

Rashford recently addressed questions about his professionalism after being excluded from Ruben Amorim’s squad for United’s Premier League match against Manchester City. Speaking to journalist Henry Winter, Rashford said:

“I do feel misunderstood, but I’m fine with it. I’m a very simple person. I love football. That’s been my life from the beginning.”

Amorim clarified that Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were dropped due to concerns over their training performances, not disciplinary issues. However, in Ronaldo’s widely discussed interview with Piers Morgan, he praised Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, and Casemiro as standout professionals while omitting Rashford.

Ronaldo’s Praise for Dalot, Martinez, and Casemiro

Ronaldo highlighted Dalot, his Portuguese compatriot, as a prime example of professionalism, emphasizing the defender’s intelligence and work ethic:

“In Manchester United, I can mention Dalot. He’s young, but very professional. I don’t doubt he’s going to have longevity in football because he’s smart, intelligent, and very professional.”

He also commended Lisandro Martinez for his commitment and recognized Casemiro, a familiar teammate from their Real Madrid days, for his leadership and dedication on and off the pitch.

Criticism of Younger Players

Ronaldo expressed concern over the mentality of younger players, suggesting they lack the “hunger” of previous generations:

“I don’t think they don’t respect the more experienced players, but they live in a different era. The hunger [is different]. They have things more easily—they don’t suffer, and they don’t care.”

He extended his critique beyond Manchester United, pointing to a global trend in football:

“It’s not just at Manchester United; it’s all teams in all leagues. Younger players today aren’t like my generation. But it’s part of life and the influence of new technologies that distract them.”

Ronaldo concluded with a pointed remark about how young players respond to guidance:

“They listen, but this is why we have two ears. They listen from one side, and it goes out the other.”

Rashford’s Chance to Prove His Dedication

Rashford’s exclusion from Ronaldo’s list, combined with recent concerns about his training, has reignited scrutiny of his professionalism. Despite this, the England international has shown glimpses of his quality under Amorim and remains focused on reclaiming his place in the squad.

With crucial matches ahead, Rashford has a valuable opportunity to demonstrate his commitment and reshape perceptions about his dedication to the team.
