Zinedine Zidane’s Stance on Liverpool Revealed as Odds Slashed on Him Taking Job
Zinedine Zidane has already made his stance on Liverpool clear amid rumours linking him with a move to Anfield.
Back in September, after a 2-1 win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup, things were well for Arne Slot and Liverpool as they began the 25/26 season with seven straight victories across all competitions.
However, just a month later, things have unravelled for Slot as Liverpool are currently on a four-match losing streak in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, they have also lost to Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League.
Following Saturday night’s 3-2 defeat by Brentford in the Premier League, pressure is beginning to mount on Slot, with a number of the Reds’ fanbase starting to question the Dutchman’s position as head coach.
Amid Liverpool’s current struggles, odds have recently been slashed on former Real Madrid boss Zidane to take over at Anfield.
According to Betfair, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner remains the 3/1 favourite and is followed by Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is at 4/1.
Zidane, meanwhile, is third-favourite at 9/2, while Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has odds of 7/1. A sensational return for Jurgen Klopp is priced at 9/1.
What has Zinedine Zidane said about Liverpool?
Previously, Zidane has spoken glowingly about Liverpool.
The Frenchman has previously stated that Anfield is one of the best away grounds to play at.
When asked about the best away stadiums, he told Real Madrid’s YouTube channel: “Liverpool. I also remember Manchester United.”
In 2021, Zidane labelled Liverpool a ‘complete team’ prior to facing them as Madrid boss.
He said: “They’re a complete team. Some people will mention the three forwards, and it’s true that they’re really good, but I think they’re a strong, solid unit. I’d rather focus on the team. After that, yes, the three forwards are really efficient. We’ll have to be alert.”
However, the former midfielder did state that the language could be a potential obstacle.
Zidane said to L’Equipe in 2022: “I understand English, but I don’t fully master it. I know that there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work differently.”
