Trent Alexander-Arnold Cleared to Finalize Liverpool Reunion After Real Madrid Update
Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is nearing full recovery from the hamstring injury he sustained last month, just as the Spanish giants prepare to face Liverpool in the Champions League.
The former Liverpool star is targeting a return to action for Real Madrid ahead of their highly anticipated clash with his old club. Reports suggest his rehabilitation is progressing positively, making an appearance at Anfield on November 4 a realistic target.
Madrid have four matches scheduled before their trip to Merseyside, and Alexander-Arnold is reportedly optimistic about making his comeback toward the end of that run. Initially given a six-week recovery timeline, he has already been sidelined for four.
The England international suffered the setback early in Madrid’s Champions League fixture against Marseille last month — a blow that added to a challenging start to his new chapter in Spain.
Before the injury, Alexander-Arnold had earned a regular place in the starting lineup, but Xabi Alonso opted to restore club captain Dani Carvajal once he returned from a serious knee injury. The reduced playing time has also hurt Alexander-Arnold’s chances of inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for September.
Now, he must prove both his fitness and form to reclaim his spot at Madrid and make an impression in the coming weeks. Returning to his hometown club, however, is set to be an emotional challenge.
The Liverpool academy graduate can expect a tense reception when he steps out at Anfield, having turned down a contract extension to join Real Madrid in a £10 million early transfer deal that allowed him to participate in the Club World Cup.
“It was one of the hardest decisions of my life,” Alexander-Arnold told GQ España when reflecting on his move. “Liverpool is my home — it made me who I am. But Madrid felt like the right step at the right time.
“It was driven by ambition and a desire for transformation — to push myself in a new environment. The legacy of Real Madrid speaks for itself, but what truly motivated me was the challenge and the opportunity to grow in unfamiliar surroundings.
“Playing at the Bernabéu is a special experience — you can feel the weight of the shirt, and that pushes you to give everything.”
Alexander-Arnold faced boos from some Liverpool fans when news of his departure broke, though reactions were mixed. His final appearance at Anfield, against Crystal Palace, saw a warmer send-off, and the right-back appeared visibly emotional as he bid farewell to the supporters who had watched him rise from the academy to the first team.
