Arne Slot Makes Fixture Complaint After Liverpool’s Premier League Loss vs Brentford
Arne Slot and Liverpool last won a Premier League match on 20 September when Everton went to Anfield and Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Etiktike put the encounter to bed within half an hour. Their latest result, a 3-2 defeat to Brentford, will be their most worrying to date – and the Dutch tactician has complained about the fixtures they’ve had in his post-match interview.
Dango Ouattara drew first blood in the fifth minute and Kevin Schade doubled their lead later on before Milos Kerkez gave the reigning champions of England a lifeline with his goal on the stroke of half-time. In the second half, Igor Thiago made it 3-2 to Keith Andrews’ men from the penalty spot before Mohamed Salah scored with seconds left of regulation time.
The Reds were unable to find an equaliser in seven minutes of extra-time and the capital club ran out triumphant at the Gtech Community Stadium as it marked Liverpool’s fourth Premier League defeat in a row. At the time of writing, the side from the red half of Merseyside are sixth in the table and four points off table-topping Arsenal, who have a game in hand.
Slot Makes Post-Match Complaint About Premier League Fixtures

October has been a rough month for those associated with the Anfield outfit, with their solitary victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League only giving a mere bit of solace in a period that has been challenging for a team that added north of £400 million of talent to their ranks over the summer. But, on the brink of entering November, the new additions are taking time to gel.
Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Kerkez and Ekitike are among those signed by Slot and his entourage over the summer months – and Liverpool’s 47-year-old boss rolled all manner of reasons why they lost to the Bees on Saturday evening. Speaking to Sky Sports in the wake of their 3-2 defeat, his side’s fourth on the trot, he said:
“Teams have a certain playing style against us, which is a very good strategy to play, and we haven’t found an answer to it yet,” Slot said before adding, “And, every time, going 1-0 down doesn’t really help as well. It’s a bit of that – teams knowing which strategy to play against us.”
“We are still, even today when we don’t play well, able to score two goals and create more chances than the two goals we scored from open play. But you cannot even compete, which we are not doing at the moment, we don’t compete up there, because we simply concede too many goals.
“And that is something where I’m not only looking at the defence because that’s something we do with 11 players together. And it definitely also has to do with if you change quite a lot during the summer. Then it’s not a surprise that it can go a little bit like this but I didn’t expect four losses in a row. Let that be clear.
“It’s always a bit of a bumpy road if you change – that is not so surprising. But four losses in a row and, I don’t know if this will be seen as an excuse, but from the last six games we played… it’s been five away? Sometimes this is also not really helpful if you’re on the run of form we are.”
Fans, in the wake of his comments, are bemused by how the ex-Feyenoord chief has reacted to his fourth Premier League loss on the bounce. Even members of the Anfield faithful are losing their patience with Slot, only the fifth manager in Premier League history to win the title in their first season at the helm.
“Can he just stop giving interviews?” one supporter said before another jumped to the conclusion that he could be hinting towards a premature exit. They wrote, “Omfg did he really say that? He’s gone.”
There were many Liverpool fans that were commenting on similar things after learning that Slot – widely regarded as one of the best managers in world football – had complained about the fixtures after the match rather than other tangible aspects that could be attributed to their defeat in the capital. “He’s becoming really unlikeable in these interviews…,” a third said as another added, “If he said that he’s done.”
Up next for Liverpool is welcoming Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace to Merseyside for the League Cup before Anfield plays host to their 10th Premier League match of the campaign at the beginning of November. Playing Trent Alexander-Arnold and Real Madrid is then on the agenda for Slot’s men in the Champions League.
