Report: Liverpool taking initial steps to acquire a new right-back
Liverpool is preparing to pursue a right-back signing.
The club is currently strategizing a move to secure a right-back.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure in the summer, a significant gap has emerged. Liverpool attempted to address this gap with Jeremie Frimpong, but their efforts have yet to yield results.
Consequently, Arne Slot has opted to utilize Dominik Szoboszlai in an unfamiliar position, favoring the Hungarian midfielder over Frimpong to fill the right-back role.
Surprisingly, Szoboszlai has performed admirably in this position. He has demonstrated versatility, proving to be a dependable player throughout.
However, considering the broader context, the performances of Frimpong and Conor Bradley at the start of the season raise some concerns.
It’s important to note that for Frimpong, it’s still early in his transition to a new team and league. Meanwhile, Bradley has faced setbacks due to injuries.
Overall, it appears neither player is quite ready to assume the role of first-choice right-back. At the very least, Liverpool requires additional depth given the injuries both have encountered.
In the long run, Arne Slot cannot depend on Szoboszlai to fulfill the right-back position indefinitely. Eventually, a dedicated right-back is necessary.
There are promising options within the club’s academy worth monitoring. DJ Esdaille and Lenix Conde are both highly regarded prospects. Calvin Ramsay remains a player Liverpool has not yet given up on, despite being 22 years old now.
Ultimately, it appears Liverpool is contemplating a return to the transfer market.
As reported by Rousing the Kop, the club is beginning to track Argentine prodigy Dylan Gorosito.
The 19-year-old has attracted the attention of scouts during the U20 World Cup, where he has recorded one goal and three assists in six matches for his country.
The report indicates that Liverpool scouts have been impressed by the right-back’s performances and will continue to track his development upon his return to Argentina, where he plays for Boca Juniors.
Gorosito possesses speed and exceptional technical skills. He is not primarily an overlapping wing-back who engages defenders; rather, he prefers to stay back and manage possession for his team, somewhat akin to Alexander-Arnold in that regard.
Additionally, he is an outstanding defender, particularly adept in one-on-one situations, and he tends to win many duels.
With considerable experience at the youth level, his statistics from the U20 World Cup are quite impressive.
However, he has yet to make a significant impact at the highly competitive Boca Juniors. Even though he will turn 20 later this year, he has only made one appearance for the senior squad.
This situation complicates the assessment of his current level and poses challenges for him in obtaining a work permit under the new Post-Brexit regulations.
Nevertheless, Liverpool has taken initial steps towards signing him by deciding to keep an eye on his progress. It is evident that they recognize the potential in this young player.
Moreover, they appear to be receptive to the possibility of acquiring another right-back.
