Woeful’ – Slot Must Drop £150kp/w Liverpool Dud Who Was Rubbish vs Everton

Liverpool took on Everton in the first Merseyside derby of the new season in the Premier League this weekend and came away with a 2-1 win.

Arne Slot’s men came into the game in good form, having won every match so far this term, including their mid-week Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, while the Toffees have also looked good in the early stages of the campaign, sitting sixth with seven points after their first four games.

That said, it was the home team who made a strong start and they opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, when Mohamed Salah clipped a ball through for Ryan Gravenberch, who finished with style. Hugo Ekitike then kept his cool to finish through Jordan Pickford’s legs to double the lead before half-time.

Idrissa Gueye struck just before the hour mark to give Everton hope, but in the end it was only a consolation as Liverpool clung on for all three points. The Reds will remain top of the Premier League table for at least another week now.

Cody Gakpo Poor Vs Everton

Despite the win, it wasn’t a perfect display from every Liverpool player. Most notably, Cody Gakpo struggled to have a positive influence on the game. He mustered just one shot (off target), lost the ball 11 times, was dribbled past twice and gave away one foul.

Compared to some of his teammates, he was fairly rubbish on the day, and with so much attacking quality in the squad now, plus the Reds pushing for a Premier League title, the Dutchman – who makes £150,000 per week – will have to do more if he wants to keep his spot in the team.

Slot lost patience in the 60th minute vs Everton and hooked Gakpo for Florian Wirtz. Alexander Isak also started the game on the bench, and with those two mega-money signings to surely come into the starting XI on a regular basis over the coming months, the Dutchman’s poor showing has left him as a strong candidate to lose his spot in the team.

Despite winning every game this season, the Reds have struggled to be at their best across the entirety of their games. If Liverpool want to truly reach their stride, it’s time for Gakpo to come out of the team, to make way for Wirtz or Isak.

Liverpool Fans Unhappy With Gakpo

Fans made their feelings very clear during the game as they singled out the Dutchman for criticism.
