Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Jeremie Frimpong – Liverpool injury news and return dates
Latest Liverpool injury news with possible return dates for Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Ibrahima Konate and Jeremie Frimpong
Florian Wirtz goes off in pain during Liverpool’s win over Arsenal
Liverpool are the only team standing with a 100 per cent winning record in the Premier League after three matches, but that has not come without its issues. Arne Slot will be hoping for a clean bill of health amongst his squad following some injury scares in the opening month.
Liverpool followed their Community Shield penalty shoot-out defeat by beating Bournemouth at Anfield and Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, with both fixtures requiring late goals. An early-season bout between title rivals then saw Arsenal visit, and a stunning Dominik Szoboszlai free-kick settled the score.
It is a positive first step towards retaining the Premier League trophy, but Slot will need his stars available if that quest is going to be successful. The importance of that factor only grows with Champions League and Carabao Cup campaigns beginning after the September international break.
Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak doesn’t have a specific injury, per se. He did have a thigh issue in the summer and didn’t partake in Newcastle United’s pre-season schedule or their first three matches of the season.
It means the £125m man arrives on Merseyside having built up no match fitness, therefore caution will have to be taken to not cause any injuries through overexertion.

In his first Liverpool interview Isak was asked about potential debut at Burnley after the international break and said: “Yeah, of course, I think that’s the ambition.
“However, I’ve had a tricky summer where I haven’t played any games and I’ve had restricted training, so I think that’s one to judge and to analyse where I am at and how much I am ready to give. But I certainly want to play as soon as possible.”
He has joined the Swedish national team where he could play his first minutes of the season in FIFA World Cup qualifiers vs Slovenia (September 5) and Kosovo (September 8).
Head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson has clarified: “We’re not going to do anything stupid with him. He hasn’t had a pre-season with lots of training and matches. He can’t play 90 minutes. We have a plan. He’s smiling and happy to be here.
“We always have very good communication with the clubs. I have spoken to their manager (Arne Slot). Our doctor has spoken to their doctor. Our physio Ben (Rosen) has spoken to their physio.
“Yesterday we had a quiet training for everyone. There was a lot of tactics yesterday.”
Possible return date: September 14 vs Burnley (A)
Florian Wirtz
Liverpool’s previous record signing Florian Wirtz was subbed off late in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Arsenal at Anfield, having previously been switched out much earlier in his first three competitive appearances for the club.
“It wasn’t an injury. It was a welcome to the Premier League,” Slot said after the final whistle.
“It was after 85 minutes I don’t think he knew he could have cramp in so many different places. That’s what happened. That is welcome to the Premier League, welcome to this intensity against an Arsenal side who can play very intense as well.”
Wirtz has since joined up with the German national team for World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia (September 4) and Northern Ireland (September 7), and there are pictures of him in training as normal.

Ibrahima Konate
Ibrahima Konate was replaced 11 minutes before time against Arsenal.
“He thinks it’s cramp and I have no reason to doubt him although sometimes players talk about cramp and then we make a scan and it’s more than that,” Slot assessed.
Citing this was Jeremie Frimpong’s self-diagnosis before his current injury, the boss added: “Let’s wait and see.”
Like Wirtz, Konate has joined up with his national team as planned. France have World Cup qualifiers vs Ukraine (September 5) and Iceland (September 8).
Possible return date: September 14 vs Burnley (A)
Jeremie Frimpong
Jeremie Frimpong was replaced 60 minutes into his Premier League debut against Bournemouth. Later it was confirmed he would be absent until after the international break and missed the meetings with Newcastle and Arsenal.
In his answer to Konate’s injury on Sunday, Slot said Frimpong’s issue would keep him out two to three weeks in total, therefore there is a chance he could make an immediate return after the break.
In the meantime the Dutchman is working on his recovery at the AXA Training Centre, where he was the first of the squad to greet Isak when he arrived on Monday.
